A Day of Enrichment at Sea
Today we slowly make our way to Wyndham in relatively calm seas with a 20 knot ESE breeze causing a mild rolling action on the ship. Maximum temperature is forecast to reach 25 C, so a nice day to be at sea.
Many “enrichment “ lectures are scheduled for today, pretty much filling the whole day if you attend them all. We attended the first one about wildlife in the Kimberley, followed by a compulsory talk on safety issues around use of the zodiacs for our coming expeditions. The one that followed on bird life in the Kimberley we decided to give a miss.
It was time to continue to explore the ship and find out where everything is, as there is very little published information and heavy reliance on people finding out from the in room TV menu (which is still recovering from the internet outage yesterday), or learning by osmosis. We found out where to get a cup of coffee, that the shop on board did not sell all items we thought they did, we located the guest laundry and that the most valuable person on board is your personal butler.
He arrived this morning with some items for our mini bar after asking last evening what we would like in the room to drink. We told him we normally drink gin and scotch.
It seems 1 litre bottles are the smallest they have
It is such a nice day that we decide to have lunch up at the pool again today.
Checking on our progress just after lunch shows us powering along at 6 knots, I guess it may have something to do with the number of ships they can handle at Wyndham at one time. We are planned to dock at 6.30 am tomorrow morning.
More enrichment was on offer at 2.30 pm with a presentation by the resident geologist on board to give us the history of the geology of the Kimberly. By now we are feeling very enriched and our only pre dinner commitment is to attend the short session which spells out the arrangement for the various tours tomorrow. In our case the is the trip to El Questro Station which is a long 10.5 hour tour, leaving at 7 am.
Dinner tonight was at La Dame Restaurant , the only restaurant on board where there is a charge for the meal, but based on its reputation we decided to give it a go at USD 60 per head. It was a great meal and excellent service.
It sounds like we are in for a busy program from now on as the expedition part of the cruise swings in and we can expect to be doing multiple zodiac rides some days.
